Understanding Consent: It's Not Just a Yes

Consent is clear, coherent, willing, and ongoing. This guide breaks down what consent actually looks like in practice and gives coaches language to teach it without sounding like a legal lecture.

Steps

  1. Consent is ongoing: it can be withdrawn at any time.
  2. Intoxication means no: someone who is drunk cannot consent.
  3. Silence is not consent: only an enthusiastic yes counts.
  4. Past consent does not mean future consent.
  5. Teach the 'coffee test': would you ask someone to make decisions about their body if they were sober?
