Alcohol, Drugs, and Consent
Substance use is a factor in many campus sexual assault cases. This guide addresses the connection directly and gives athletes clear guidance on how alcohol and drugs change the consent equation.
Steps
- Intoxicated people cannot give consent — this is not debatable.
- Choosing to drink is not choosing to be assaulted.
- If you're not sure they can consent, the answer is no.
- Watch out for teammates: if someone is targeting an intoxicated person, intervene.
- Hosting a party? Designate a sober monitor.
